APW - Illinois, Bunn Special, Grade 163, 23J 60 Hour, scarce Type IR marking, 16S, gold-filled OF original Bunn Special Model 28 case, "Illinois Bunn Special 23 Jewel 60 Hour" marked white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel arbor, raised gold jewel settings, gold train, rayed pattern nickel damascene, s#5321494. An attractive example of this scarce Grade 163 variant, the Type IR marking is scarce with an estimated total production of approximately 850 made per Michael Chamelin's Bunn Special book. The Type 1R has the distinction of being the first variant of Grade 163 to be produced and differs from all others in that its "163" marking is located toward the perimeter of the barrel bridge being placed just to the left of the "Motor Barrel 23 Jewels" markings.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, some fine scratches to larger winding wheel; flawless dial; excellent hands, minute with some bits of oxide; case shows light wear, some fine scratches to rear, small ripple to reflection toward left perimeter of rear caused by a slight shallow dent, very thin sliver of wear to brass to rear shoulder; tight bow, crown shows light wear and has some up/down play; good glass crystal.
